1 - ELBA and the GRANIT – from Prehistory to today (Western Part)
Route: San Piero- modern granite open-cast mine- Monciones water-mill - old roman open-cast mine- San Piero

We leave the village of San Piero, and we visit the modern granit open-cast mine. Along a smooth path, we come to Moncione WaterMill (mt 366). We go further and we find the ancient granit open-cast mine, already used in roman times and archaeological site very important, where numerous columns of 12 mt. Long are.
These areas are regularly visited by wild sheep and wild boar.

2 - THE MEDIEVAL ELBA
Route: Marciana – Neveras Valley – Hermitage of San Cerbone - Marciana

Time: about 4 hours
Difficulty: easy
Interest: historically, naturalistic and photographically

After the visit of Marciana, dominated by the Pisan fortress, we begin to hike in the shadow of old chestnuts to Neveras Valley.We bridge and after a few meters, we reach the hermitage of San Cerbone, built in the XIV century. The descent towards Marciana is immersed in a luxuriant vegetation of ultraage-old plants.
